BY SONAM TASHI/ThimphuThe Department of Information Technology and Telecom (DITT), Min- istry of Information and Communications jointly with DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe) conducted the workshop on “High Capacity Internet Networks for Research and Education.”
The workshop is hosted jointly by Delivery of Ad- vanced Network Technology to Europe (DANTE) and DITT, which has in turn partnered with the Royal University of Bhutan.
Over 60 participants from numerous private companies and agencies in Bhutan and experts from TEIN3 countries (Trans Eurasia Information Network) attended the workshop.
TEIN3 provides a dedicated high-capacity Internet network between research and education communities in the Asia- Pacific and also with that of Europe, with the objec- tive of fostering research collaboration between research communities.
Today TEIN3 has about 50 million users in about 8,000 research and academic centers.
Bhutan is not yet connected to TEIN3 network, but working towards it.
The workshop is also aimed to educate and create awareness amongst potential users and consolidate efforts made so far to forge the necessary partnership towards con- necting to TEIN3. Bhutan is also working to establish its research and education network.
